In 1964, the Educational Opportunity Program was introduced at UC Berkeley as a faculty initiative to support the disproportionately small numbers of first-generation college and low-income students admitted to the University.

EOP provides specialized resources designed to address the needs of:

Low-income students

Pell Grant or Dream Act Scholarship eligible as verified by the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office

First-generation college students

Parent(s) / guardian(s) have not graduated from a four-year college or university in the United States

Underrepresented students

All students may benefit from individualized academic counseling, various support services, and extensive campus referral network. In addition, “low-income” students are also offered the services and benefits listed under the financial assistance section of our website (including various grants and fee reductions).

Students receive information about EOP resources in the spring via email outreach when they are admitted to the university.
