"Advising as a Social Justice Practice" Conference
Friday December 12, 2014
University of Nevada, Las Vegas
Today's student community is increasingly complex and diverse. Advisors and student support units have developed innovative practices and approaches as unique as the students they are serving. Advising and programming that supports the needs of non-traditional students (such as first generation, low-income, underrepresented, foster youth, undocumented, student parents, veterans, etc) not only fulfill the needs of these students, but also empowers marginalized groups. By understanding and responding to the particular experiences, themes, and issues that impact non-traditional students, an inclusive advising community may serve as advocate and ally towards equity in higher education and beyond. Our one-day conference, "Advising as a Social Justice Practice," celebrates these efforts and brings advisors and practitioners together to share our collective experiences and wisdom. Join us!
